Mozilla has launched a new version of the Firefox browser with specific tweaks and features designed to make a better browser experience on Windows 10. Firefox 40 has a fresh look and streamlined feel and addresses some issues Mozilla has with Microsoft and Windows 10.

New Look

For most people Windows 10 will end up looking and feeling a lot like Windows 7. However, Microsoft has designed Windows 10 to provide a hardware-agnostic experience that is consistent and functional regardless of the form factor of the hardware it’s running on. Part of that design evolution revolves around cleaner apps and a less-cluttered Windows experience.

In a blog post announcing Firefox 40, Mozilla states, “We’ve made thoughtful tweaks to the interface to give Firefox a streamlined feel. You’ll also notice bigger, bolder design elements as well as more space for viewing the Web.”

Browser Choice

A couple weeks ago Mozilla CEO Chris Beard posted an open letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. It starts out, “I am writing to you about a very disturbing aspect of Windows 10. Specifically, that the update experience appears to have been designed to throw away the choice your customers have made about the Internet experience they want, and replace it with the Internet experience Microsoft wants them to have.”

Net Market Share claims Microsoft has nearly 77 percent market share with Firefox coming in second at just under 18 percent. My internal data from my own website puts Chrome in the lead at 54 percent…
