From FOX 2 Now:
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Two north St. Louis residents are thankful to be alive and are scratching their heads, trying to figure out why three Molotov cocktails were tossed at their home.
It all started Wednesday night around 10. Joel Ellis and his mother were inside their house, on the 5900 block of Park Lane, when they suddenly heard a window break in their living room, and saw a small black bottle burst into flames.
Ellis thanks his military training for what he did next: without hesitation, he threw a blanket over the fire, picked up the Molotov cocktail and tossed it out the front door.
Ellis now has a broken window, singed curtain, and hole in his mother’s favorite chair. Still, he feels fortunate that neither he nor his mother was injured.
Ellis says he can’t imagine why anyone would target his home: “The officers said they might have targeted the wrong house, accidentally. But then again, you never know with the way people are doing things now, the whole situation is scary. They may do somebody else tomorrow. You never know.”
Investigators found another flammable black bottle in the living room, which never exploded. Thursday morning, around 7, when the insurance adjustor arrived, Ellis discovered a third Molotov cocktail under his car. There are no suspects at this point. Investigators hope to get fingerprints from the third bottle that could to the culprit.
