NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police say at least four people were shot near a Newport News restaurant Tuesday night.
Just before 8:30 p.m., dispatchers got a 911 call about a shooting in the 6100 block of Jefferson Avenue, according to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department. That’s right near the Deja Vu Restaurant.
At the scene, officers were told there had been a fight and that multiple gunshots had been fired.
Shortly afterwards, Thurston said a local hospital notified the department of three gunshot victims who had just arrived at the emergency room. Officers then found a fourth victim at nearby Crittenden Middle School, who was taken to an area hospital.
“At this time, we do not know if the victims were involved in the fight or if any of the victims fired any weapons,” Thurston said, in a press release around 9:30 p.m.
One person has been detained by officers and is being questioned. However, police don’t yet know if the person was involved in the shooting.
